The 42-acre Southeast Alaska State Fairgrounds is a year-round center for community recreation. The Fair board and staff welcomes safe, responsible use of Fair property for the recreation activities listed below. Leashed dogs welcome, except during events. Thanks for helping us keep the fairgrounds clean by removing your own refuse and cleaning up after your dog!
Haines Farmers Market—produce, arts, crafts, baked goods and more! All Alaska grown and made. Held under Paysons Pavilion or in Dalton City. Dates for 2012 Farmers Markets TBA.
Raven’s Bowl Disc Golf Course–9 challenging holes on a wooded course along the perimeter of the Fair’s old gravel pit. Check out a course map at the Raven Arena kiosk.
Ice Hockey (Winter)–The Haines Amateur Hockey Association puts up boards and floods and maintains ice in Ravens Arena for community hockey games and ice skating October through April. Skate at your own risk.
Horseback Riding in Ravens Arena (Summer)–The arena is open to individual horseback riding May through September, and is an “as-is” and a “ride-at-your-own-risk” facility. Riders should clean up after their horses. Contact the Fair office for policies and rental rates for lessons or other activities.
Cross Country Trails–Currently, the Haines School Cross Country team using Fair property for its annual home meet, and the grounds are frequented by local runners. Fair staff is fundraising to construct a multi-use non-motorized trail around the perimeter of Fair property. Plans are to cut a rough trail summer 2012 for running, skiing, snowshoeing….To volunteer or learn more, call 766-2476.
Horseshoe Pits–Four lanes adjacent to the Klondike Restaurant. Bring your own ‘shoes.
Sand Volleyball Court–near the Klondike Restaurant.
Tots and Kids gymnasiums and sandbox–A lovely, grassy children’s play area is located next to McPherson Barn. Children accompanied by parents are welcome anytime.
Bike Park–At present, the bike park is a dream and a concept for the former gravel pit. Contact the Fair office at 766-2476 if you are interested in volunteering to help make it a reality.
